The launch of the Mahinda Environmental Magazine, published by the Environment Division of the Homagama Divisional Secretariat, along with a wildlife photography exhibition featuring nearly 40 photographs of wildlife captured in small forest patches around Colombo, including Diyagama, was held on 26 December 2025 at the auditorium of the Homagama Divisional Secretariat. The event took place under the patronage of the Deputy Minister of Mass Media, Dr. Kaushalya Ariyaratne.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by members of the Buddhist clergy, including the Secretary of the Homagama Shasanarakshaka Bala Mandalaya and Chief Incumbent of the Godagama Purana Vihara, Venerable Kotigala Nandarathana Thero, as well as the Secretary of the Homagama Uda Gahapaththuwa Shasanarakshaka Bala Mandalaya and Deputy Principal of the Nandana Pirivena in Kesbewa, Royal Pandit, Shasthrapathi Venerable Miriswatte Indasiri Thero, along with other members of the Sangha.
Also in attendance were the Chairman of the Homagama Coordinating Committee, Mr. Anura Panagoda; Pradeshiya Sabha Member Ms. Renuka Liyanage; other political representatives; the Assistant Secretary of the Ministry of Environment; the Divisional Secretary of Homagama; the Divisional Secretary of Padukka; the Director of the Central Environmental Authority; the Zonal Director of Education for Homagama; principals of nearby schools; environmentalists; and many other invitees.
Financial support for the Mahinda magazine was provided by the Air Management and Ozone Unit of the Ministry of Environment, while funding for the photography exhibition was contributed by Softlogic Life (Pvt) Ltd, the Godagama Traders’ Association, and other members of the business community.
