In view of the present economic crisis in Sri Lanka, with the aim of overcoming the food crisis, the Colombo District Secretary / Governor Pradeep Yasaratne, along with the "Aharin Sapiri Colombothotak" program, implemented in conjunction with the divisional secretariat divisions of Homagama, Kesbewa, Maharagama, Kaduwela, Padukka and Seethawaka in the Colombo district. With the aim of promoting gardening in the elderly and disabled homes, a gardening training program for elderly promotion officers and distribution of fertilizer and vegetable seed packets was conducted today (August 16) at the auditorium of the Homagama Divisional Secretariat under the patronage of Mr. B.A.D. Chinthaka and Mr. B.S Kekulavala, Assistant Divisional Secretary.
Resource contribution for gardening training was provided by Kahathuduwa Agriculture Consultant Mr. Indika Gunasena.
District Social Service Officer Mrs. Dushmanti Dharmasena, District Elderly Promotion Officer Mrs. Chitrani Rankoth, Social Service Officers of the six (6) Divisional Secretariat Divisions involved in the program and Elderly Promotion Officers of the Elderly and Disabled Homes of those divisions joined the event.
This program was organized by Homagama Divisional Secretariat's Social Services Division on the advice of Homagama Divisional Secretary Mr. B. A. D. Chinthaka and Assistant Divisional Secretary Mr. B.S Kekulawala in coordination with Colombo District Provincial Social Services Division.
