Books are eyes.. Through reading, allowing the eyes to open, seeing the world and life through the mind, and raising the mind with a wide imagination are all the riches that man gets through reading.
This is a good deed for that.
As another phase of the domain-based community-based drug prevention program started in 2023, focusing on "World Children and Elderly Day - 2024", the library established for the use of children and adults in Hettayawatta Grama Niladhari Domain of Homagama Divisional Secretariat, Homagama. Under the initiative of the Divisional Secretary, it was done on 01.10.2024.
Along with that, a drug prevention program was also held for children, adults and women.
For this occasion, Homagama Divisional Secretary B.A.D. Mr. Chinthaka, Assistant Divisional Secretary Mr. Chamal D. Thenuwara, Deputy Director (Planning) Mrs. Nilanka S.Sampath, Mr. Shriantha Prasad Ratnayake, the film and TV director who was the main sponsor for the opening of the library, and Mr. Dhanushka Tharanga, the Homagama Community Reform Officer of the Community Reforms Department and the staff, Mr. Deshmanya Deshbandu Thilakaratne, the Chairman of the Civil Defense Committee, Mr. Hettiawatta Village, Government officers and donors from Homagama Division participated.
Contribution of donors and office officials of the division was sought to procure the necessary books for this library.
Dhanushka Tharanga, the Community Corrections Officer of the Department of Community Corrections, presented uniforms to all the children who participated in this program.
With the aim of encouraging women and empowering them, the Office Women Development Officer gave an awareness speech here, and this program is more to start and update and maintain many necessary processes in front of the Hettiawatta Grama Niladhari area to create a better living condition by achieving the good life aspirations of the community in the area. It is good to say that it was a positive step.
This program was organized by the Office Drug Prevention Treatment Rehabilitation and Counseling Division with the support of Office Child Affairs and Community Corrections Officers with the guidance and intervention of the Divisional Secretary in accordance with the Risk Domain Based Community Based Drug Prevention Program implemented by the National Board of Dangerous Drugs Control.
