The Christmas Carol Evening, organized in conjunction with the Christmas festival, which is celebrated with great enthusiasm by Christians all over the world, was held on December 30, 2024 at the Homagama Divisional Secretariat Auditorium.
This program, which was colorful with Christian carol singing, was represented by the St. Michael Anuduni Church, Katuwana, Homagama, Kahathuduwa Upananda Dhamma School, Homagama Regional Cultural Council, Regional Elders' Council, Regional Women's Council, Mattegoda "Yathra" Children's Society, and the Homagama Divisional Secretariat. It was held under the patronage of Divisional Secretary B.A.D. Chinthaka, according to a concept by Assistant Divisional Secretary Chamal D. Thenuwara.
Father Chanaka Prabath of the St. Michael Anuduni Church in Katuwana, who participated in this event, delivered a sermon on the true meaning of Christmas to better explain the message of peace that Jesus gave to the world, and it was special that the Honorable Secretary of the Udugahapattu Shasanarakshaka Bala Mandala, Venerable Miriswatte Indrasiri Thero, addressed the gathering to promote religious harmony.
Assistant Divisional Secretary Chamal D. Thenuwara delivered a sermon on "The Broadcasting of Sri Lankan Christian Songs", and in conjunction with this event, social activist Nawaratne Menike Dissanayake symbolically donated school books to low-income children and presented a set of books to the Divisional Secretary.
School books were distributed to 25 selected low-income students in the Homagama Divisional Secretariat and gifts were also distributed to the other children who attended. Venerable Kotigala Nandarathana Thero, Honorary Secretary of the Homagama Hewagam Korala Regional Shasanarakshaka Balamandala, Venerable Miriswatte Indrasiri Thero, Honorary Secretary of the Udugahapattu Shasanarakshaka Balamandala, Father Chanaka Prabath of the Katuwana St. Michael Anuduni Church, the Divisional Secretary, key staff and a large number of people representing various organizations participated in this event, and this program was organized by the Social Services Division and the Cultural Division of the office.
