Divisional Secretariat - Homagama

A relief mission jointly organized by the Mattegoda Central A and Mattegoda Central B GN Divisions to provide assistance to the residents of the Henpita GN Division, who were affected by an emergency disaster situation, was carried out on 03/12/2025.

This program was implemented in accordance with the guidance and instructions of the Divisional Secretary and based on a proposal made by the local Member of Parliament. During the program, a large quantity of relief items was donated to 219 families affected in the Henpita area. These included dry rations, bottled water, cleaning supplies such as soap and Dettol, clothing, pillows, bed sheets and bedding, slippers for small children, infant care items and other essential goods, medicines, and items required for pregnant mothers, among other materials and equipment.

A large number of community members participated in this humanitarian effort together with the government officers attached to the two GN divisions.

With the aim of providing practical experience regarding the modern importance of the tourism and hotel industry in the world of work, the available employment opportunities, and guiding the students towards these fields, an opportunity was recently granted for the Grade 11 students of B/HO/Ambalangoda Siripathi Vidyalaya to visit the Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism & Hotel Management (SLITHM).

About 21 Grade 11 students from the school participated in this program. Members of the school’s academic staff, along with the office’s Skills Development Officer and Human Resource Development Officer, also took part.

Throughout the day, SLITHM arranged for the students to observe various departments related to the functioning of a star-class hotel, and provided an overall briefing on its operations. The Assistant Director (Marketing) of the institution offered the necessary support for this event.

The program was organized by the Office Skills Development Officer, Ms. M. Champika Padma Kanthi, and the Human Resource Development Officer, Ms. A. Nandani Athukorala, under the guidance and supervision of the Divisional Secretary.

A dental clinic targeting schoolchildren, along with a parental awareness program on oral health, was successfully conducted on 18.11.2025 at the premises of the Meegoda North Service Center.

To ensure the success of these clinical activities, valuable contributions were made by Dental Therapist Ms. Wasana Rathnayake along with several other officers. All these activities were coordinated by Ms. Sandhya Perera, Community Empowerment Officer of Meegoda North, together with Ms. Chamodi Yasanthika, the Principal of Ekshara Preschool.

A program aimed at raising awareness among school students on literary creation was held recently at the auditorium of the Divisional Secretariat. The objective of this program was to guide students in enhancing the quality of their literary work, provide support for creative writing, and pave the way for nurturing skilled and refined literary creators.

The resource person for the event was Mr. Mahinda Senarath Gamage, a distinguished writer and recipient of national and international literary awards. Approximately 100 beneficiaries participated in the program, with five Grade 10 students engaged in literary creation representing each school in the division.

The program was organized by Cultural Officer Ms. Nalanie Swarnalatha, under the guidance and direction of the Divisional Secretary, based on the provisions allocated by the Department of Cultural Affairs for the “Dolos Mahe Pahana” program series.
