Divisional Secretariat - Homagama

This program, organized in advance to raise awareness about how to obtain an NVQ certificate through the RPL procedure, was held on 2026-03-19 in the auditorium of the Homagama Divisional Secretariat.

Practical beauty training (pesal) was provided to 54 beneficiaries.

The resources for this were provided by the National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority, represented by Bimaya Madhushani M. and TVEC assessor and Hair, Beauty Bridal Instructor Nethali Anoma Colombo.

Government officials and staff participated in the event, including Administrative Grama Niladhari Windhya Lakshitha M., District Coordination Officer Ananda Wijekoon M., and Human Resource Development Officer Nayana Kumuduni M. Under the guidance and supervision of the Divisional Secretary, the program was organized by the office’s Human Resource Development Officer and the Skills Development Officer.

With the objective of reviewing development issues and progress in the Homagama Division, the Divisional Coordination Committee Meeting organized by the Planning Division of the Homagama Divisional Secretariat was held on January 29, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. at the Secretariat auditorium.

The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the Homagama Coordination Committee, Hon. Aruna Panagoda, the Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation, Hon. Janitha Kodithuwakku, the Deputy Minister of Defence, Hon. Aruna Jayasekara, Member of Parliament Attorney-at-Law Hon. Susanta Dodawatta, the Chairman of the Pradeshiya Sabha, other Members of the Pradeshiya Sabha, the Divisional Secretary, the Assistant Divisional Secretary, the Deputy Director (Planning), other government officials, and members of the public.

The meeting was organized and coordinated by the Development Division officers under the guidance of the Divisional Secretary.

Under the other services of the President’s Fund, the first self-employment equipment grant representing the Colombo District was presented to Mrs. D.S.S. Dahanayake, a resident of 481 – Habarakada North Grama Niladhari Division in the Homagama Divisional Secretariat Division.

A five-thread overlock sewing machine valued at Rs. 125,825 was awarded to her. The presentation took place on 16.02.2026 at the Homagama Divisional Secretariat premises under the patronage of the Chairman of the Homagama Divisional Coordinating Committee and Member of Parliament, Hon. Aruna Panagoda, along with the Homagama Divisional Secretary and the Assistant Divisional Secretary.

In conjunction with the Thai Pongal festival, which reflects the cultural identity of the Hindu community, the Thai Pongal celebration organized by the Homagama Divisional Secretariat was ceremonially held on 20.02.2026 at the premises of the Divisional Secretariat.

This event, organized with the aim of promoting reconciliation and coexistence among communities, was held under the patronage of the Divisional Secretary of Homagama, the Assistant Divisional Secretary, Mr. Lalith Dhammika Kumara, Assistant Director in charge of Tamil (Piriven), Mr. Indika Wijesinghe, Teacher Instructor, along with the Office Administrative Officer, the Administrative Grama Niladhari, and many other invited guests.

Approximately 250 participants, including schoolchildren, parents, and government officials—the targeted beneficiary group for this program—took part in the event. The celebration was further enriched and beautified by traditional Hindu rituals and vibrant dance performances.

Under the guidance of the Divisional Secretary, this program was organized with the coordination of the Office National Integration Coordinator, Ms. L. P. S. Prasadika.
